Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What services does the ophthalmic surgeon’s clinic in Psychiko offer?
At my modern clinic in Psychiko, which serves patients from all over Athens, I provide complete diagnosis and treatment for every eye condition. As a specialist ophthalmic surgeon, I offer everything from routine check-ups for adults and children to specialised microsurgical treatment of cataract, glaucoma, refractive errors (such as myopia and astigmatism) and macular disease, using state-of-the-art equipment.
How do you choose the best ophthalmologist in Athens?
Looking for the best ophthalmologist is entirely reasonable when your most valuable asset, your sight, is at stake. For me, the answer always comes down to experience, specialisation and genuine care for the person. I am committed to offering you a strictly personalised medical approach. Continuous professional development and the use of the most advanced diagnostic techniques ensure the best, most modern and safest result.
How much does a full eye examination cost and how are surgery fees determined?
The exact cost of medical services and surgical fees depends entirely on the nature and severity of each condition, as well as on any additional tests that may be required. During your visit, I will examine you thoroughly, we will discuss all available treatment options together, and I will give you a completely transparent and honest estimate of the cost for your individual case.
How often should I see an ophthalmologist for a check-up?
As an ophthalmic surgeon, I always stress that prevention is the cornerstone of eye health. If you are a healthy adult with no previous eye history, I recommend an eye examination every one to two years. However, if you have a systemic condition such as diabetes, have glaucoma, or have a strong family history of eye disease, follow-up should be more frequent to protect the long-term health of your eyes.
Where is the clinic and how do I book an appointment?
Dr. Vasileios Skouteris’ clinic is located at 26A Agias Sofias Street, on Agias Sofias Square in Neo Psychiko, with easy access from central Athens and the northern suburbs. You can book an appointment by phone or by filling in the contact form on the website, and the clinic will get back to you to arrange a day and time.
Which conditions does Dr. Skouteris treat?
Dr. Skouteris, an ophthalmic surgeon trained at Oxford University Hospitals and holder of the FEBO diploma, treats cataract, myopia and other refractive errors with laser, glaucoma, macular degeneration and retinal conditions, blepharitis and dry eye. He also performs laser blepharoplasty and IPL treatments.
Do you examine children?
Yes. Dr. Skouteris examines both adults and children. A paediatric eye examination includes an age-appropriate vision test, measurement of refractive errors, screening for strabismus and amblyopia and, where needed, an examination with dilating drops. A full examination is recommended at around 3 to 4 years of age and before starting school, or earlier if there is any concern.
What should I bring to my first visit?
Bring your glasses, for both distance and near, and details of your contact lenses if you wear them. A list of the medicines you take and any previous eye test results are also useful. If your pupils need to be dilated, your vision will be blurred for a few hours, so it is best to come with someone and not drive.
Can I have my eye examination in English?
Yes. Dr. Skouteris completed his fellowship training in Oxford, UK, and consultations can be held in English, so international patients, expats and visitors in Athens can discuss their symptoms, results and treatment options without a language barrier.
